Stepped Garden, Berkshire

This garden in Berkshire has a steep gradient sloping up from the house, which was dealt with by incorporating a series of steps and a water feature which cascades down into a pool at the bottom.

The steps lead to a gravelled sitting area at the top, which is enclosed by a low clipped box hedge and surrounded by lush planting and white- flowering Cherry trees. The perimeter and internal walls are all rendered and painted white for a contemporary feel, and the paving is all natural Limestone covering the area immediate to the house which serves as a dining area.

The use of bold geometry, utilising curves and circles, softens the hard lines of the house and the existing shape of the garden, and provides a structure for the planting within it.
